Jet, July 25, 1994
Jerome Russell, the eldest son of Herman Russell, founder of H.J. Russell Company, was recently named the new president and chief operating officer of the Atlanta-based company. Jerome Russell, 32, took over July 1, the same day that the construction firm combined its four construction and real estate units into one, allowing for better utilization of all its services.
"We've been in the throes of change for a long time," says Herman J. Russell, who will remain company chairman. The senior Russell added: "We as a group have chosen Jerome the COO. He's a young man. And we are all committed to giving him the support to make him the best COO that you will find anywhere."
The combined earnings of the companies have annually ranked H.J. Russell & Co. in the top five of the Black Enterprise Top 100. The company is Atlanta's largest minority-owned firm.
