Jet, August 17, 1998
Chicago Bears middle linebacker Mike Singletary and Miami Dolphins center Dwight Stephenson recently were among the five who were enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame at the Canton Civic Center in Canton, OH.
Singletary, an eight-time All-Pro, was named the 1985 defensive player of the year on the Super Bowl XX champion Chicago Bears. He played for the Bears for 12 consecutive seasons, the last one in 1992. In 1990, he was the NFL Man of the Year, which is the most prestigious civic honor an NFL player can earn. Singletary's wife, Kim, introduced him. She became the first wife in Canton history to be selected as a presenter.
Stephenson was the nucleus of the Miami Dolphins Super Bowl teams in 1983 and 1985. He was Miami's offensive center for all of his career from 1980-1987. He was presented to the Hall of Fame by his former coach, Don Shula.
Joining Singletary and Stephenson as inductees were Philadelphia Eagles receiver Tommy McDonald, Minnesota Vikings safety Paul Krause and Cincinnati Bengals tackle Anthony Munoz.
