Songwriter claims Hammer stole his song: sues him - Muhammad Bilal Abdullah - Brief Article

Jet, Feb 1, 1993

A songwriter is suing superstar Hammer and his record company for more than $16 million, claiming the rapper stole his song.

Muhammad Bilal Abdullah claims Hammer stole his composition, Oh, Oh You Got the Shing and renamed it Here Comes the Hammer.

Abdullah says he performed his song for Hammer at an audition in Dallas in August, 1989 and followed it up by sending him a tape of the song.

The tape was returned with a letter saying the rapper wasn't interested, according to the lawsuit.

Abdullah is suing for all profits from recordings, videos and live performances of the song.

Hammer could not be reached for comment.
