With his emergence as the star of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," actor Avery Brooks is getting a role to showcase his talents.

Brooks plays Commander Benjamin Sisko on the new nationally syndicated series in which he commands a remote space station near the borders of an enemy alien species.

The space station has a collection of "intergalactic intersections of cultures," Brooks called it in a distinct baritone voice.

The acclaimed actor, who portrayed Renaissance-man Paul Robeson - known for his presence and powerful voice - in a national play, is also the narrator of the "EBONY/JET Black Excellence" three video-tape series which focuses on entrepreneurship, leadership and the arts for young Blacks in search of inspiration.

Oprah Winfrey, Bill Cosby, Maya Angelou, Governor L. Douglas Wilder, Children's Defense Fund Founder/Director Marian Wright Edelman, Maxima Corp. CEO Joshua I. Smith, Dr. James Comer and EBONY/JET Publisher John H. Johnson are among those featured.
