Federal government awards contracts to Central State - Central State University

Jet, August 9, 1993

Three recent federal contracts awarded to Central State University were announced at the university's fifth annual Federal Procurement Conference.

Doris Clanton, assistant counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, announced the contracts on behalf of Ohio Senator John Glenn.

Under a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Central State will direct a program of economic stimulus and neighborhood revitalization in Greene County.

With 499,085 in seed money from HUD, Central State will initiate programs which include rehabilitating 12 owner-occupied single-family homes in Xenia using the expertise of faculty and students in the Department of Industrial Engineering Technology at Central State.

The activities will impact positively on the community and contribute to HUD'S priorities of expanding home ownership and enforcing fair housing for all. Dr. Laxley Rodney will direct the HUD program for the university.

Central State's Department of Manufacturing Engineering has been awarded a three-year contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to conduct research with the NASA Lewis Research Center Space Experiments Division in Cleveland. Dr. Morris M. Girgis will be the principal investigator for the contract.

Central State also has been named as part of a consortium of historically African-American institutions awarded a five-year, $20 million by the U.S. Department of the Army to provide research and development support services, training support services, and technical support services for the Army.
