Jawana Smith, a graduate of Grambling State University in Louisiana, has been sworn in as the first Black police officer in the 64-year history of the Bexley Police Department in Bexley, OH. After becoming an officer, she attended and graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy, one of the most prestigious peace officer training schools in the country.
