Love Jones

Jet, March 17, 1997 by Sylvia P. Flanagan

A sexy romantic comedy, love jones is about starting over again and again. A struggling photographer, Nina Mosley is fed up with her job as an office gopher for a fashion photographer, and struggling writer Darius Lovehall has quit his job at The Chicago New City to write a novel. The two meet at the Sanctuary, a local haven where poetry is the prime draw.

In an awkward introduction at the bar, Nina catches Darius off-guard, and uncharacteristically, he fumbles and spills his drink on her. He recovers minutes later when called to the stage to recite one of his poems. He makes the most of the moment by calling his sensuous creation "Blues For Nina." Darius and Nina see each other again at a record shop managed by his friend Sheila and once again he seizes the opportunity for a relationship. The two find they have a love jones for each other. Starring: Larenz Tate as Darius, Nia Long as Nina, Isaiah Washington as Savon, Lisa Nicole Carson as Josie, Bill Bellamy as Hollywood and Khalil Kain as Marvin. Introducing: Bernadette L. Clarke as Sheila and Leonard Roberts as Eddie.
