Dorothy Gaters, girls basketball coach for Chicago's Marshall High School, recently defended the ACT scores of her team's top three players.
Marshall, the Class AA champs the last two seasons, had its three key players fail the ACT test. The three girls, all seniors, will have to sit out a season or attend junior college.

Rep. Cardiss Collins (D., Ill.) asked Gaters how many players on her current team passed the ACT. "None," Gaters responded, "But all is not lost because they have not passed an ACT exam. They can still get a quality college education."
