Ex-governor Wilder cancels radio talk show
Jet, Sept 11, 1995
Citing "excessive demands on his time," former Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder recently canceled his radio talk show.
Wilder's two-hour weekday morning show was broadcast on eight stations in Virginia, one station in Washington, D.C. and one in Baltimore.
"It's just difficult to be up and raring and ready and available every morning," he explained in an interview.
Wilder, the nation's first Black elected governor, began his radio show in January (JET, Jan. 30). His last broadcast was August 31.
The longtime Democrat is expected to teach classes at two universities this fall.
Wilder says he intends to teach at Virginia Common-wealth University, in Richmond, serve as a guest lecturer across the country, and participate in a lecture series at Hampden-Sydney (VA) College.
Wilder also is planning to write a book about the historical roots of contemporary problems, published reports say.
