William 'The Refrigerator' Perry signs deal with London Monarchs
Jet, March 18, 1996
Former NFL star defensive lineman William "The Refrigerator" Perry, who captured the hearts of fans by scoring a rushing touchdown in Super Bowl XX, recently signed a deal with the World League's London Monarchs.
Perry, 33, will play defensive tackle and running back for the Monarchs.
Perry is not a stranger to London football fans. In 1986, Perry played with the Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears in the first American Bowl against the Dallas Cowboys and scored a rushing touchdown to thrill the Wembley Stadium faithful.
"The fans in England were great to me in '86 and this is my chance to give something back to them by helping the Monarchs win the World Bowl and promoting American football," the 350-pound Perry said in the USA Today.
Perry, who last played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1994, has done speaking engagements since retiring.
Perry will make his debut against the Scottish Claymores at Tottenham's White Hart Land soccer ground on April 14.
