Black women improve SAT scores more than others
Jet, Sept 12, 1994
For eight years now, Black women have improved their scores on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)--the most frequently used standardized college admission test -- more than any other group.
In 1987, the average verbal score for Black women was 349, and in 1994 it edged up to 354, according to information from the recently released annual report on SAT.
In 1987, the average math score for Black women was 367, and in 1994, it increased to 381.
Donald Stewart, president of the College Board, a non-profit group that sponsors the tests, said better preparation can be attributed to the increase in scores by Black women.
