Lt. Gen. Johnnie Wilson named 4-star general

Lt. General Johnnie E. Wilson, deputy chief of staff for logistics in the U.S. Army, has been appointed to full general by President Bill Clinton and named head of the U.S. Army Materiel Command in Alexandria, VA.
Gen. Wilson, a 26-year-veteran, becomes the only active Black fourstar general/flag officer in the Army. The last active Black four-star general was Ret. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Cohn Powell.
Born in Baton Rouge, LA, Wilson received a B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a master's degree in logistic management from the Florida Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Helen, have three children.
