Juanita Kidd Stout, lawyer and judge, was named by Governor David L. Lawrence of Pennsylvania to serve as judge of the Philadelphia Municipal Court m this day. Later that week, she was nominated by the Democratic Party to run in November for a full term on the Municipal Court. Stout won the term and became the first Black woman to become a justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

She was born in Wewoka, OK. Judge Stout received a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and a law degree and master of laws degree from Indiana University.
