Blues great B.B. King and famed actor Sidney Poitier are among the recipients of this year's Kennedy Center Honors for their contributions to the nation's culture.

Their lifetime work will be celebrated. with a gala performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on Dec. 3. It will be taped for broadcast early next year on CBS-TV.

King has a long string of hit tunes including, Never Make A Move Too Soon, Nobody Loves Me But My Mother (And She Could Be Jiving Too) and the Grammy Award-winning, The Thrill Is Gone.

Poitier's critically acclaimed film roles include Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, To Sir, With Love and A Raisin in the Sun. He became the first Black man to win the best actor Oscar for Lilies of the Field in 1963.

King and Poitier will be joined by this year's other Kennedy Center Honor recipients: playwright Neil Simon, ballet dancer Jacques D'Amboise and opera singer Marilyn Horne, whose singing voice was dubbed for Dorothy Dandridge's character in the film Carmen Jones.

President Clinton will attend the show and the honorees are invited to a White House reception earlier that evening.
