Smith becomes Cowboys' all-time scorer of rushing touchdowns

Jet, Sept 25, 1995

Dallas Cowboys superstar running back Emmitt Smith recently opened his 1995 NFL season on a record note.

Besides rushing for 163 yards on 21 carries during the Cowboys 35-0 season-opening win over the New York Giants at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J., Smith scored four touchdowns to break Tony Dorsett's record (72 TDs) as the Cowboys' all-time scorer of rushing touchdowns with 75.

"It's a pretty good feeling, but it hasn't hit me yet. I'm thinking about what I have to do to help this team get back to where it wants to go," Smith said of the record in USA Today.

Smith, 26, in his seventh season out of the University of Florida, still has a long way before he holds the NFL record. But if he continues this way, Walter Payton's record of 110 rushing touchdowns will not be safe.
