The College Fund/UNCF honors achievers at 53rd Anniversary Dinner

Michael J. Jordan and Michael H. Jordan first met on a basketball court when they were making a UNCF public service commercial. The gentlemen met again when they were among the four honorees at The College Fund/UNCF 53rd Anniversary Dinner, which was held at the Imperial Ballroom at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers.

The two Jordans received The College Fund's highest honor, the Frederick D. Patterson Award.

Michael J. Jordan is the Chicago Bulls superstar whose commitment to excellence is seen on and off the court. Michael H. Jordan is chairman and CEO of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and chairman of the board of directors of The College Fund/UNCF.

Dr. Eleanor R. Gittens, a committed educator and graduate of Clark Atlanta University, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award, and Earl G. Graves, publisher and CEO, Black Enterprise Magazine, received the presidential award.

Robert L. Johnson, chairman and CEO, Black Entertainment Television (BET), served as the dinner chairman.

The College Fund/UNCF is the nation's oldest and most successful minority higher education assistance organization. The organization raises funds for member colleges and universities to provide financial assistance to students and technical assistance to member institutions. Each year it honors exceptional individuals who demonstrate a deep commitment to providing education opportunities through their support of the organization.
