Henry Espy acquitted on all charges involving his 1993 campaign for U.S. Congress

Henry Espy, the brother of former Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy, was recently acquitted on all six charges that surrounded his failed attempt to win a seat in Congress.

A federal judge in Oxford, MS, recently acquitted Espy on the sixth and final charge of an indictment alleging that he made false statements to a bank to secure money to help to repay a 1993 campaign debt and that he conspired to defraud the Federal Election Commission. The decision ends a two-year probe into Espy's congressional campaign finances.

Espy, who is mayor of Clarksdale, MS, currently is in a campaign for re-election in May.

Following the judge's decision in Oxford, MS, Espy said he is glad to be returning to Clarksdale.

"I want to get home and get back to my job of trying to be the best mayor I can be," he said.
