Shreveport, LA, girl, 8, earns perfect score on National Science Olympiad test

An 8-year-old Black girl from Shreveport, LA, was one of four fourth-graders nationwide to earn a perfect score on the Grade 4 National Science Olympiad 1997.

Kira Nicole Strozier Colvin was one of four students named a national leader after she achieved a perfect score on the National Science Olympiad, a test composed of 35 questions from a broad range of topics pertaining to science. Her superb efforts earned her, along with the three others, a medal from the National Science Olympiad in St. James, NY.

More than 4,200 fourth-graders from more than 425 schools across the country took the test in April.

Throughout her schooling, Kira has been a straight-A student in both academic and enrichment classes. She attends Judson Fundamental Elementary Magnet. The studious youngster is also in the Gateway Program for gifted and talented children.

Kira is the daughter of Michael A. and Harvetta S. Colvin.
