Jet, April 4, 1994
Branford Marsalis, bandleader of the "Tonight Show," recently filed for divorce from his actress wife Teresa.
The couple were married in 1985 and they separated in 1991. They have an eight-year-old son Reese, who will live in Westchester, NY, with his mother, according to the divorce petition.
The divorce petition was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and it called for a regular dissolution of the marriage. It did not list how the couple's assets would be divided.
Marsalis is the brother of famed trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. A Grammy Award-winning saxophonist, Marsalis has performed with such jazz legends as Sonny Rollins.
He is an accomplished actor as well. Marsalis appeared in Spike Lee's film School Daze and opposite comedian-actor Billy Crystal in the hit comedy Throw Momma From the Train. He recently made a guest-starring appearance on the hit sitcom "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."
