* LADY SLUGGER: Tammy Holmes, star outfielder for the Colorado Silver Bullets women's professional baseball team, became the first woman in the team's three-year history to hit two home runs in a season. On May 13, she hit her first homer, an inside-the-park grand slam in a 14-11 win against the Atlanta Mustangs in Athens, GA.
This is a stellar debut season for the 22-year-old, who was a four-time All-American college basketball and volleyball player with the University of California-Berkeley. The Silver Bullets, which has assembled some of the finest female baseball talent in the country, traveled to 50 different cities from Jacksonville, FL, to San Diego, CA, to compete against men's military, college allstar, semi-pro and Olympic teams from May through September. They finished with an 18-34 record.
