Collins gets amendments to telecommunications bill

Jet, April 11, 1994

With the passage of two amendments to a House bill that promotes a national communications infrastructure, Illinois Congresswoman Cardiss Collins is one step closer in her effort to open up the telecommunications super highway to minority contractors.

According to Collins, "The two amendments which were passed

today will help to ensure that a fair proportion of the total purchases, contracts, and subcontracts for supplies, commodities, technology, property, and services offered by the telecommunications providers and their affiliates are awarded to minority and women business enterprises."

The Collins amendment requires the annual plans to include progressive goals, timetables, technical assistance, and training.
