Toronto's Carter out with broken thumb

Jet, April 11, 1994

Last year's World Series hero Joe Carter was expected to miss up to eight weeks with a broken right thumb, the result of being hit by a pitch by Minnesota Twins' Scott Erickson in a recent exhibition contest against the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, FL.

Carter, who has averaged 160 games in each of his last three professional baseball seasons, was not believed to be seriously injured initially. X-rays after the game discovered the fracture.

The two-time defending champion Blue Jays will be without their most productive hitter during the seasons in which they won the Series.
