Eagles quarterback Rodney Peete out for remainder of season

Jet, Oct 21, 1996

An injury suffered by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Rodney Peete, one of a handful of Black quarterbacks in the NFL, will keep him out of the game for the rest of the season.

Peete tore the patella tendon in his right knee when he slipped while dropping back to pass in the first half of a 23-19 loss to the Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys.

Peete, a 30-year-old, eight-year veteran out of the University of Southern California (USC), was trying to rally his team from a 20-10 deficit before halftime. He dropped back to throw a pass, but as he planted to throw, his back foot stuck in the Veterans Stadium turf and his knee gave way.
