Wilkins returns to NBA; signs with San Antonio Spurs

Dominique Wilkins returned to the NBA after a year of playing basketball in Europe by signing a deal for the; league-minimum with the San Antonio Spurs.
Wilkins, 36, who played last season in Greece after he failed to reach a deal with the Boston Celtics (JET, Sept.4, 1995), signed a contract for $247,500.
"We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to sign a player like Dominique at this point in time," said Spurs General Manager Gregg Popovich. "His experience and ability to score will certainly be a positive for the team."
In 984 career regular season NBA games, WiLkins has scored 25,389 points, which ranks eighth on the all-time list. He has a career average of 25.8 points per game, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists and 1.36 steals.
The 13-year NBA veteran led the Greek team Panathinaikos Athens to the European professional basketball championship earlier this year.
