Wilma J. Webb named U.S. Labor Dept. Secretary's representative for six states

Wilma J. Webb, first lady of Denver and former Colorado State Representative, recently was appointed the U.S. Labor Department's regional representative for six states by U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexis M. Herman.
Webb was sworn in as the Secretary's regional representative for Region 8, which includes Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. She is the first Black and the first woman to serve in this capacity for this region.
As the Secretary's representative, Webb will serve as the Labor Department's liaison with state and local officials, business, labor and other interested groups in the region in order to assess their views of Department of Labor programs. She also will serve as a regional point of contact for members of Congress.
As a former Colorado state representative who served for 13 years as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives, she sponsored strong legislation adopted by the Colorado General Assembly.
She was the first minority woman member of the powerful Colorado Joint Budget Committee and co-authored Colorado's $4.5 million budget for the state's 20 departments of government.
Currently she is the chairwoman of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission.
The Denver native attended the University of Colorado at Denver. She is an alumna of the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government and holds an honorary doctorate from the Colorado Institute of Art.
Mrs. Webb and Denver Mayor Wellington Webb are the parents of four adult children.
