Jet, Oct 18, 1993

The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) managed to profit a bit when the group reconstituted as a union earlier this year.

The NFLPA won back the right for union dues deductions from players' pay checks. The players reportedly have to pay $5,000 for union dues.

"The players will get that back and more from our licensing program. They have to pay dues because of our tax status. Well give them a rebate at the end of the year," reported NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw in USA Today.

Upshaw noted that players who did not sign licensing deals with NFL Properties can expect as much as a $7,000 rebate at the end of the year.
