Actor-director Spike Lee recently took a break from shooting his upcoming flick, Crooklyn, to exchange wedding vows with a lady lawyer he's been linked to romantically for the past year.
The 36-year-old Morehouse College grad, who has a string of box-office hits that began with She's Gotta Have It and continued through Malcolm X, wed Tonya Linette Lewis, 32, at Riverside Church in New York City.
Some of the music at the nuptials was provided by Stevie Wonder and the Boys Choir of Harlem. A gala wedding reception followed at the Museum of Natural History in the city.
Celebrities on hand to offer the filmmaker and his lawyer bride their best wishes were entertainer Bill Cosby, actor Ossie Davis, sportscaster Ahmad Rashad and his actress wife Phylicia Rashad; Oscar winner Denzel Washington, who starred with Lee in Malcolm X, basketball star Patrick Ewing and Poetic Justice writer-director John Singleton.
The bride, a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College in New York and the University of Virginia law school, worked with a law firm in Washington, D.C., after earning her law degree in 1991. Lee and his lady love reportedly met last year while attending activities at the annual Congressional Black Caucus gathering in the District.
