Chicken protein may help treat arthritis - Harvard University Medical School study on rheumatoid arthritis - Brief Article
Jet, Oct 25, 1993
A protein found in chicken may help in the treatment of people who are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, according to a study conducted by Harvard University Medical School.
The researchers studied 60 people and found that 28 of the people in their study who were given small doses of a collagen solution made from chicken bones over a three-month period, were found to have experienced about 30 percent less pain and swelling of rheumatoid arthritis.
Arthritis symptoms went into remission in four people who received the treatment, the study said.
The Arthritis Foundation officials cautions, however that the study needs to be confirmed by other studies, but notes "it does show promise."
