Bill Cosby, comedian-actor, became the first Black to receive an Emmy Award for continued performance as an actor in a series on this day. In the television series I Spy, Cosby played an undercover agent disguised as the trainer-companion to an international tennis player, Robert Culp. His many significant contributions to television include his success as the first Black to co-star in a weekly dramatic series. Cosby has been recognized by many prestigious awards, including the NAACP Spingarn Award. He has seven gold albums. His career has spanned many decades. His present television show, "Cosby," continues to be a popular weekly show.
