Tina Turner performs theme song to new James Bond movie, 'GoldenEye.'

Sexy vocal legend Tina Turner performs the theme song to the latest entry in the series of James Bond movies, GoldenEye.

By performing the song, Ms. Turner joins the ranks of Shirley Bassey and Gladys Knight as women who've done theme songs for the long-running series of sexy spy movies.

Ms. Turner told Entertainment Tonight: "It (the song) sounds like the right track for the movie. Some soundtracks, to me, they don't actually go with the movie somehow. It just sounds like a good song. And this one sounds like it fits the movie." She admitted that she has been a big Bond fan for years.

This is not the first time Tina Turner has done a movie soundtrack. Several years ago, she acted in and performed the soundtrack for the hit film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Doing the soundtrack for GoldenEye is part of a fulfillment of Ms. Turner's dream of being a Bond girl, those sexy, scantily clad women who have action-packed, intimate encounters with British Secret Service Agent 007, the world's bestloved spy.

Turner has been a singing legend for more than two decades. That fact could explain why she hasn't done very many film roles. She has legions of musical fans around the world.

Her acting credits include the movie musical Tommy as well as Mad Max. She has performed on numerous variety television shows. "But my reputation is so strong as a singer that unfortunately it could be hindering my movie career. But I'm still hanging on. I'll wait," she told "Entertainment Tonight's" Mary Hart.

The tune she sings is a stringfilled, lush number written by Bono and the Edge, of the hot British rock group U2. Those guys just happen to be Ms. Turner's neighbors in the south of France.

Besides the vocal skills of Ms. Turner, the new Bond also features a new lead actor. Pierce Brosnan has now taken on the role of the legendary 007. The title GoldenEye was taken from the Jamaican home of Ian Fleming, the man who wrote the James Bond novels. The 16 James Bond films, starting with Dr. No and From Russia With Love in the early 1960s, have become the most successful film franchise in history.

In the six years since the last James Bond movie a lot has happened to the world. The Iron Curtain has fallen and in the new world ruthless plots for mega-bucks abound. GoldenEye is a present-day movie where rapidly-changing politics has turned some old opponents into new best friends. And some old allies have become deadly enemies. The producers pointed out that the whole world has changed, but not the warriors. And at the top of the list of warriors is that same sexy, effortless hero the whole world has come to know and love--James Bond!

And, as Ms. Turner pointed out, no Bond film would be a Bond film without exotic, elegant leading ladies. GoldenEye features two beautiful actresses, Izabella Scorupco as a Russian computer programmer and Famke Janssen as a sexy, femme fatale.

Almost nine years ago, Pierce Brosnan, known to television fans for his role in the NBC drama/comedy Remington Steele, was one of the oddson favorites to join the ranks of Sean Connery and Roger Moore as Bond. He almost got to do a Bond film in 1986 but it didn't work out.

"It was something that came in and went out of my life in '86 and though I certainly didn't just wait in the wings for it to come back, come back it did." Brosnan said. "When something happens in your life a second time, it carries a certain significance. In any case, it's not a job you take lightly; there's an audience out there, 33 years standing, so it's a big responsibihty."

Brosnan said that he, too, was a Bond fan growing up in the 1960s, especially of the superhit Goldfinger. "I was a 10-year-old from the bogs of Ireland and there was this beautiful gold lady on a bed-naked. It made quite an impression on me. And now, here I am in GoldenEye."
