Ex-Howard Univ. pharmacy dean succumbs to cancer

Dr. Wendell T. Hill Jr., dean emeritus of Howard University's College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, died recently of cancer at the Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center.
He was credited with enabling the school to obtain full accreditation from the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education and with establishing a doctoral program there. He retired in 1994.
A native of Philadelphia, he served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. After his war services, he later graduated from Drake University and received both master's and doctoral degrees in pharmacy from the University of Southern California.
In the '50s and '60s, he worked in California and eventually became chief pharmacist at the Orange County Medical Center. Later, he served as director of pharmaceutical services at Detroit General Hospital and associate professor of pharmacy at Wayne State University. He moved to Washington in 1977 and headed the Howard pharmacy school.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marcella, and two sons, Wendell of Greenbelt and Philip of Long Beach, CA.
