It's unanimous. Chicago White Sox first bastman Frank Thomas is the American League Most Valuable Player, getting all 28 first-place votes.

Only eight other players in league history have had an unanimous selection, including Hall of Farmers Regiie Jackson (1973), Mickey Mantle (1956) and Frank Robinson (1966).

"I was shocked, but I guess that's the way to win it," Thomas said of the voting.

But he should not be too shocked since he placed in the top 10 for home runs, RBI and batting average.

Thomas, 25, finished second in the league with 128 RBI, third in home runs with 41, and sixth in batting average at .317. This season he became the fifth player in baseball history to hit .300 and have 20 or more home runs, 100 RBI, 100 walks and 100 runs scored in three straight seasons.

"I thank my teammates, too, because this is a reflection of what we did this year," Thomas concluded.
