Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans recently topped all other colleges and universities in the United States for a third straight year in the number of Black graduates accepted to medical schools.

In 1995, 81 Xavier students were accepted to medical schools, according to the most recent statistics from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

Dr. JW Carmichael, Xavier's pre med advisor, told JET, "We are happy to get a lot of Black students into medical schools. Most of those students will usually work at Black hospitals. We,re happy to be No. 1 again, but we,re even happier that students are getting to medical school."

Xavier has an enrollment of 3,500. The university first obtained its No. 1 status in 1993 when 49 of its Black students were accepted into-medical schools.
