Jet, June 7, 1993

A former JET writer who was on assignment covering Rev. Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., when he was killed in Memphis 25 years ago, returned to the U.S. to watch her daughter graduate with honors from Michigan State University.

A native of Sweden, Ragni Lantz worked in Washington and New York with JET and EBONY Magazines from 1965 to 1969. She was accompanied by JET photographer Maurice Sorrell in Memphis.

She left the company after she married Motown executive Junius Griffin, later becoming the mother of two daughters. She returned to Sweden in 1984.

Named "outstanding senior" of the psychology department, Zenzi Griffin, 23, won the $1,000 Andrews undergraduate research award from the college of social science and was chosen to speak at commencement.

Awarded a National Science Foundation minority graduate fellowship, she will begin a Ph.D. program in cognitive psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the fall.

Now director of the Swedish Baptist Women's Union, Ms. Lantz serves as a PR consultant for the committee on migrants and refugees. Her ex-husband is seeking a doctorate from MSU.

During her years with JET and EBONY, Ms. Lantz covered civil rights events in the South and reported on activities at the White House and Congress in Washington.
