Nnenna Lynch, a cross country and track champion at Villanova (Philadelphia) University, recently was named the 1993 NCAA Woman of the Year in Washington, DC.

Lynch, currently a Rhodes Scholar who graduated with a 3.91 grade point average and summa cum laude honors in May, participated on four consecutive NCAA National Championship cross country teams and won the 1992 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track title in the 3,000 meter race.

A charter member of Athletes Against Alcohol (AAA) and a Philadelphia soup kitchen volunteer, Lynch is a champion of youthful causes.

"My dream is to open a network of community and after-school centers for underprivileged youth. After school centers were instrumental in my life," Lynch noted.

Lynch was selected from nearly 500 entries which were reduced to 10 finalists. Two national panels comprised of sports celebrities selected the Woman of the Year.
