Harry Belafonte lends his support to National Afro-American Museum in Ohio

Jet, July 3, 1995

Famed entertainer-civil rights activist Harry Belafonte was the celebrity guest speaker at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center's annual fund-raising gala in Wilberforce, Ohio.

The black-tie bash, called "An Evening in the Caribbean," raised more than $20,000 for the museum's foundation, which has earmarked the funds for the museum's collections development effort. The museum currently has a growing collection of more than 10,000 artifacts.

Belafonte reminisced about his role as an activist and humanitarian in the '60s Civil Rights Movement.

The museum is open year round and serves the public, including more than 30,000 school children from the Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio areas annually.
