Jet, July 3, 1995

Opa-locka, FL, Mayor Robert Ingram recently was re-elected to his second term as the president of the National Conference of Black Mayors, Inc., during the group's 21st annual convention in Memphis.

Ingram, the ninth president of NCBM, will serve another one-year term. The NCBM, which represents 20 million people, is comprised of 381 Black mayors, 79 of whom are women.

Under the leadership of Ingram, the organization has increased its efforts to mobilize around issues that impact the communities served by the membership. Through high-level meetings with President Bill Clinton and members of his Cabinet, NCBM has raised public policy issues, and received critical information with which to make better informed decisions.

The convention, which was held in Memphis and hosted by Mayor W.W. Herenton, addressed shared problems, and workshops focusing on community economic empowerment provided valuable information.

The full slate of NCBM officers re-elected at the '95 convention includes Mayor Lottie Williams, Velda City, MO, first vice president; Mayor Julius Patrick, Boyce, LA, second vice-president; Mayor Gordon Bush, East St. Louis, IL, third vice-president; Mayor Emanuel Cleaver, Kansas City, MO, secretary; Mayor Lena Powell, Yellow Bluff, AL, treasurer; and Inkster, MI, Mayor Edward Bivens Jr., assistant secretary.
