Jet, July 3, 1995

Boxer James Toney wins the vacant WBU light heavyweight title with a fifth round knockout of Alfredo Delgado.

In claiming the vacant title of the World Boxing Union, Toney raised his record to 46-2-2. It was Toney's 32nd knockout of his career.

The fight, at the Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans, started quickly with a first-round knockdown by Toney.

"That first punch dictated the fight," admitted Delgado of Puerto Rico. Toney went on to win each round on the judges' cards and knocked out Delgado in the fifth round.
