New Jersey school named for Gordon Parks

Renowned filmmaker, photographer and writer Gordon Parks recently was honored at the official renaming dedication ceremony at Gordon Parks Academy in East Orange, NJ.

The school, formerly Stockton School, is the elementary magnet school of radio, animation, film and television in the East Orange school district.

"Mr. Parks is a living legend in the field of arts and communication who exemplifies determination and vision from humble beginnings to world wide achievements," said school principal Joyce Howard of the native Kansan. "Mr. Parks is a glowing model for our students to emulate."
