Students suspended for racist flier circulated at Pennsylvania school

Five York, PA, vocational school students recently were suspended for their alleged involvement in distributing a fliers about a hunting season on Black people at the school.

The flier, purportedly a notice to hunters from state fish and wildlife officials, used nearly two dozen racial slurs.

Approximately 11 percent of the student population at the York County Vocational-Technical School are minorities.

The president of the local NAACP branch, M. Baba Whisler, said that the organization would work with school officials to help ease racial tensions on the school's campus. She noted that of the 85 teachers, none are Black.

According to a local newspaper, the fliers circulated at area factories for weeks before it was distributed at the school. The flier says that due to last winter's cold and flooding conditions, the hunting of big and small game would not be permitted in Pennsylvania. However, to ensure the state did not lose hunting license revenues and hunters would not lose their skills, there would be "an OPEN SEASON ON PORCH MONKEYS (Enemployus Affricanus), regionally known as jigaboo, saucer lips, jungle bunnies, spooks, niggers, spear chuckers...and spades."
