108 people have died in U.S. custody

Humanist, May-June, 2005 by Karen Ann Gajewski

* While the death toll of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan continues to rise, so does the number of U.S. detainee deaths. At last report, at least 108 people have died in U.S. custody--most of them due to violence, and some 25 percent of them under investigation as possible criminal homicides. At least twenty deaths are being attributed to "justifiable homicide" by U.S. troops using "appropriate" deadly force.
