Japan is issuing stricter regulations on "entertainment visas"

Humanist, May-June, 2005 by Karen Ann Gajewski

* In the wake of criticism over its past failure to curb human trafficking, Japan is issuing stricter regulations on "entertainment visas." Between 60,000 and 80,000 Filipinos arrive in Japan annually on such visas and most end up working in Japan's sex industry. The new restrictions require applicants to provide certification of two years' study in some form of performance art.
