Lawsuits have been filed against the United States - Worth Noting - United Nations International Court of Justice - Brief Article

Humanist, July-August, 2003 by Karen Ann Gajewski

* Lawsuits have been filed against the United States in the United Nations International Court of Justice. Even as the United States prepared for its war in Iraq, a suit was filed by Iran accusing the United States of delivering dangerous chemicals and deadly viruses to Baghdad during the 1980s. A Belgian lawyer, on behalf of nineteen Iraqis, is moving forward with a war crimes lawsuit against U.S. General Tommy Franks over seventeen "specific incidents" in which U.S. soldiers and commanders purportedly violated international law. And allegations of U.S. violations of the Geneva Convention for publishing pictures of POWs at Guantanamo Bay are also being heard.
