Ethnic cleansing is rampaging unchecked

Humanist, July-August, 2004 by Karen Ann Gajewski

* Called today's worst humanitarian crisis, ethnic cleansing is rampaging unchecked in the Darfur region of western Sudan. The violence has led to the dislocation of one million black Sudanese villagers from their homes, the beating and rape of scores of women and girls, and widespread execution-style massacres.

According to UN officials, Sudan's government is supporting the Arab militia, the Janjaweed, that commits these atrocities to control rebel groups in the area.
