According to Amnesty International, Chinese human rights activist Chen Guangcheng was severely beaten in jail by other prisoners on the orders of guards and denied medical treatment. The thirty-five-year-old blind man is serving a four-year sentence for accusing local health workers in Linyl City in Shandong province of illegally forcing hundreds of people to undergo sterilization or have late-term abortions in order to abide by Chinas one-child policy. An appeal of his sentence was denied in January.
