* Intolerance also took a desperate turn in northern India, where a young couple was hanged this past August by villagers opposed to their inter-caste relationship. Hundreds of people watched as nineteen-year-old Vishal, an upper-caste Brahmin, and eighteen-year-old Sonu, of the Jat community (lower in the Hindu hierarchy), were taken to the roof of a house in Uttar Pradesh state and executed.
