Minimum security - Upfront: news and opinion from independent minds - Brief Article

Humanist, Nov-Dec, 2002 by Stephanie McMillan

I feel lost at sea.

You haven't seen anything yet!

THIS IS TRUE: The U.S. Coast Guard has launced Operation "ON GUARD," which asks marine industry workers, recreational boaters and other waterfront users to report:

..."SUSPICIOUS PERSONS LOITERING FOR EXTENDED PERIODS."

He's been out there for hours!

I'm calling right now!

..."SUSPICIOUS PERSONS PHOTOGRAPHING OR MAKING SKETCHES."

But I'm a landscape artist!

..."SUSPICIOUS PERSONS RENTING WATERCRAFT."

I'd like to rent a kayak, please.

No ... It just doesn't fit. I'd better call.

..."UNKNOWN VENDORS ATTEMPTING TO SELL/DELIVER MERCHANDISE."

Cold beer!

I don't recognize him.

And he's on our turf--let's make the call.
