SUMMER SOLSTICE:
An Alaskan Overland to Denali and Kenai Fjords Parks. June 12-25. Denali and Kenai Fjords, two of Alaska's most magnificent national parks, are the focus of this special outing with hosts Ed and Peggy Wayburn, noted experts on Alaskan wilderness and conservation.
Set to savor the long hours of summer solstice, a time celebrated in this land of midnight sun, our trip begins in the magnificent spruce forests at Alyeska Resort near Anchorage. Next we journey to Denali where we'll view abundant large mammals, including grizzly bears, moose, Dall sheep, and caribou! We'll stay four nights at North Face Lodge in the heart of Denali, with fantastic views of Mt. McKinley. Naturalist-led walks and other hikes will be available daily. This is the best time for finding flowers in bloom and nesting birds.
We return via the Alaska Railroad to Anchorage for a day, then travel to Seward and Kenai Fjords National Park. We will stay in charming family-owned cabins in the woods minutes away from the park itself. The highlight of our time in Seward will be a full-day boat tour through the waterways of Kenai Fjords with views of glaciers, whales, sea birds, and mammals. This tour includes an overnight on a secluded rainforest-covered island as well as an opportunity to try sea kayaking.
Trip price includes all meals, lodging, ground transportation, naturalist guides, sea kayak rental, and the boat tour. Coordinator: Carol Dienger. Price: $4,495; Dep: $200. [99100A]
