Africa
Along the Azalai: The Last Great Salt Caravans of the Sahara, Niger. November 16-30, 2002. Follow the ancient salt routes where hundreds of laden camels cross the vast Tenere Desert to the oases of Fachi and Bilma. We'll camp among the massive 1,000-foot dunes of Temet, watch the sun set on Arakoa's red sands, view 5,000-year-old rock art, and trek to the high plateau of Mt.
