Bedtime stories - Mixed Media

Sierra, Sept-Oct, 2002

Africa's environment comes alive in quilts produced by villagers working with South Africa's Embocraft Training Trust. These panels illustrate (clockwise from top left) native species, poaching ("now my children can only see those animals in pictures," reads the accompanying text), farming ("grandmother liked to plant mielies, beans, and madumbies"), and deforestation. Supported by the Sierra Club, Embotrust works with indigenous communities to protect wildlife.
